How to Treat Tinnitus
Tinnitus is a sound, or hissing noise in the ears incurable. Sufferers complain of restlessness, inability to sleep and difficulty concentrating because of constant sound. Although tinnitus can not be cured, there are ways to treat the symptoms and reduce the impact of the disease.
1. Consult your doctor. Tinnitus requires a diagnosis from your doctor and may require a visit to an audiologist. When talking with your doctor, make sure to provide as much information as possible about the frequency, type and degree of noise you’re hearing.
2. Consider alternative treatments. Although there are many treatment suggestions online unfounded, there are alternative treatment methods that have worked for many who suffer from tinnitus. If you started to feel the first signs of tinnitus, or have been feeling it in your ears for years, I recommend these methods to stop the buzz. There are indications that mild cases of tinnitus can be reduced by treatment with herbs such as ginkgo biloba or vitamin B. Others have positive results with acupuncture, magnets and hypnosis.
3. Your doctor may suggest a hearing aid or cochlear implant. Doctors audiologists and analyze each case individually for treatment options. Hearing aids are beneficial for those with hearing or to amplify sounds that are reduced because of tinnitus.
4. Try electrical stimulation. In some cases, electrical impulses are sent to the auditory nerve, which can reduce or limit the symptoms of tinnitus. Obviously this treatment is performed in a doctor’s office and is not something to try at home.
5. Continue to deal with your doctor. Often treatment requires trial and error to find a treatment that works. Each individual has different ringing, and then there is no cure or treatment whatsoever.
Following these steps should help relieve the symptoms of tinnitus. Be patient and work with your doctor to find the treatment that works best for your situation.
